Getting inspired and motivated

Monday mornings are perfect for hitting the museum. All the weekend tourists are gone and you will probably be the only one there when you come early. That's the time I love, just me and the art. Here I get inspired and also motivate myself to be creative as well as work hard for the week ahead. At the Victoria & Albert Museum you can not only visit the current fashion and design exhibitions like Constable or the Wedding Dresses one but also the free all year classics like Asian Art or ancient artefacts. The Weston Cast Court is my favourite room of the museum. The enormous golden door is breathtaking and I think the craftsmanship of the details is just spectacular.

the Horst P. Horst Exhibition has ended on 4th January 2015. If you did not manage to see it, here is the link to my blogpost about it. Nothing you have to be sad about because this amazing book about the exhibition is still available. It is an inspiration and every once in a while I browse through it and look at the masterpieces like the Picture from the Mainbocher Corset.

LOVE is on the streets

Shortly after the Frieze Art Fair I discovered the famous red LOVE Sculpture in front of the 45 Park Lane Hotel in London. I always wanted to see it live. I have seen so many pictures when this iconic pop art piece was displayed in New York and since then I was keen on seeing it. So if somebody feels the same way, go to 45 Park Lane and check out the Love Sculptures of Robert Indiana. 

NEWS // Frieze Art Fair London 2014

Today is the last day of the Frieze Art Fair in London. The tickets were limited (and quite expensive) but don't be sad if you did not buy one. 20 art pieces are open to the public, take the closest entrance to Regent's Park if you come from Great Portland Street Station and have a look at the "Sculpture Park".

The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier, Barbican Art Gallery London

Am Montag ging in London eine Fashion Ausstellungen zu Ende, die ich als eine der gelungensten Fashion Ausstellungen aller Zeit betiteln würde. Es war ein Erlebnis für alle Sinne, ein Archiv, eine Catwalk Show, ein Pop-Up Shop und ein Museum in einem. Begleitet wurde das Ganze auch noch durch eine wunderbar informative App. Auch wenn ihr es nach London so kurzfristig nicht mehr schafft, keine Panik, "The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier - from the Sidewalk to the Catwalk" wandert weiter, vielleicht ja in eure Nähe. 

Flower Art von Ana Tzarev in Canary Wharf

Canary Wharf hat mit London eigentlich wenig zu tun. 45 min vom Citycenter entfernt ist es erstens eine halbe Weltreise und zweitens gibt es hier nichts als Büros. Das Finanzzentrum der Stadt besteht aus Hochhäusern, Einkaufszentren und Hotels, umgeben von Wasser. Damit ist es nicht gerade ein must-see Hotspot der Stadt, doch diese XXL Blumen Statue von Ana Tzarev fand ich trotzdem sehenswert. In den Blütenblättern spiegeln sich die umliegenden Wolkenkratzer. Außerdem steht die Skulptur für LOVE & PEACE. 

ART : Pedro Paricio zeigt Shaman Kollektion in der Halcyon Gallery

An den Wochenenden ist es mir eigentlich zu voll in den Museen und Gallerien. Am letzten Sonntag ging die Ausstellung von Pedro Paricio in der Halcyon Gallery auf der Bond Street zu Ende und dafür machte ich eine Ausnahme. Seine farbenfrohen, grafischen Bilder haben mich in seinen Bann gezogen.

Modefotografie fasziniert mich. Besonders, wie sie sich verändert hat über die Jahrzehnte. Schaut man sich manches alte Vogue Cover an, wirkt es oft nicht mehr zeitgemäß, wobei andere wiederum jetzt noch druckbereit wären. Ein Fotograf der seiner Zeit voraus war und besonders sein Handwerk verstand, war Horst P. Horst.  Dieser Name sollte den meisten Modefans ein Begriff sein. Wer ihn nicht vom Namen her kennt, kennt jedoch seine Bilder.

Ich muss gestehen, dass ich bisher eigentlich kein großer Fan von Düsseldorf war, doch das Toykio hat mir gezeigt, dass die Stadt nun auf dem richtigen Weg ist und auch sehr stylish sein kann.

Vor dem The Dorchester Hotel in Mayfair kann man im Moment die großen Bronze Skulpturen von Julien Marinetti bestaunen. Doch was ist daran so besonders?

DAILY SCHMANKERL : Home sweet Home

Zuhause ist es doch am Schönsten. Egal, ob man weit weg von den Eltern und Freunden wohnt oder nah, man freut sich immer wieder wenn man in die Heimat kommt. Dieses "Home sweet Home" hängt im stylishen Café Toykio in Düsseldorf, worüber ich im Laufe der Woche schreiben werde. Es erinnerte mich sofort an meine Heimatstadt Heidelberg. Obwohl ich in London lebe und hier sehr glücklich bin, ist es im idyllischen Heidelberg auch immer wieder schön. 

ART : Banksy in der Londoner S/2 Gallery von Sotheby's

"Banksy - The Unauthorised Retrospektive" - das ist der Name der hippsten Ausstellung Londons. Der Streetart Künstler, der immer noch anonym bleiben will, ist Zentrum einer Retrospektive, die vom Auktionshaus Sotheby's im Stadtviertel Mayfair veranstaltet wird. Seine Werke sieht man eigentlich nur auf der Stasse, hier sieht man sie auf Leinwand, die man auch erwerben kann.

FASHION & ART : Artist Textiles - Picasso to Warhol, London

Letzten Sonntag ging die "Artist Textiles - Picasso to Warhol" Ausstellung zu Ende. Am letzten Tag schaffte ich es noch ins Fashion & Textiles Museum in Bermondsey. Natürlich will eich Euch meine Eindrücke und Bilder nicht vorenthalten.
